Village Shop

Ashbury Community Shop Action Group

The Village Shop Action Group has now concluded that there is no suitable location in which to start a new village shop. The Group was set up following the announcement of the closure of the Village Shop to see if an alternative shop could be started.  The Committee reports: "With the help of Jane Barker of Virsa, the Group has studied various approaches to re-establishing our village shop in the course of the last few months. We have had to conclude that a village shop could only be viable if it were well placed to catch passing trade on both the Wantage Road and the B4000. Currently, there is nothing available to buy or lease in a suitable location so we have also reviewed the possibility of using the Village Hall, the Free Church or a portakabin; but, unfortunately, there are significant difficulties with each of these potential sites."
