Buses

The main weekday and Saturday service is route 47 connecting Ashbury directly with Lambourn and Swindon. Click here for the timetables. Note that the Saturday schedules are different.

The Saturday-Only bus service Thamesdown 47A from Swindon to Uffington via Ashbury was withdrawn recently. The service ran three times on Saturdays. Passengers are advised to take the Weavaway X47 service instead which runs on Saturdays from Swindon through Ashbury to Wantage. The Thamesdown 47 service is not affected

The Swindon Dial a Ride Villages Shopper Bus provides a wheelchair accessible door-to-door service that runs at set times to local shopping centres.  The service is for people of any age who cannot use existing public transport due to mobility impairment or disability, whether termporary or permanent.  Companions providing help or assistance may travel with you but will have to pay the full fare.  The Friday only service runs between between Watchfield, Shrivenham, Ashbury, Bourton, South Marston and Swindon town centre.  Pick up at Ashbury is at 10.30am and the return bus departs from Swindon at 1.40pm.  The return fare costs £3.80. Swindon concessionary travel vouchers and National travel tokens may be used.  To register call 01793 616050 after 12 noon.  Once registered you will be able to book a weekly trip.  Call from 1.00pm on Thursdays to book a seat.  More information may be found here.

Trains

The nearest train stations to Ashbury are Swindon (30 mins drive) and Didcot (45 mins drive). The journey from Swindon to London Paddington takes just under an hour. It is often cheaper to get the train to London from Didcot and car parking there is certainly easier; Swindon car park is often full by 9am on weekdays.

Journey Alert is a FREE service introduced by First Great Western to let you know about your journey.  They will text or email you if there are any cancellations, alterations or route disruptions with your train. JourneyAlerts will not show individual train delays as these can already be viewed via the Live Arrivals and Departures service.  Find out more and sign-up to JourneyAlert here.
